Here is an idea. Why don't you just ask the dealer if he intends to charge you for sevice? Did you beat the daylights out of him on price when you bought it? Dealers have a right to a profit, if they earn it. Most do earn it. If you feel this guy is a crook, why did you buy from him in the first place? It sounds to me like this dealer whats a satisfied customer that is using a good running motor with no problems. His best advertisement. Nobody I know can send his kids to collage on the sale of just one motor even if he is a crook. We tend to get what we pay for.

Does the owner's manual maintenance section say to adjust the valves at the 10 hr service? Oil and filter, and lower unit lube have to be changed.

Yes, the 10 hr. check is paid for by the customer, unless he made arrangements with the dealer as part of the sales contract.

I'm not familiar as to how to get at the valves on a marine 4 stroke. But I don't think it's anything like a dirtbike. ha ha.

Wait the 10 hrs, and if possible try doing the procedure yourself(if ya want to)

Again, if it's anything like a motorbike DOHC version, it's simple

Ask the service tech at Yamiha what the steps are. He should tell you

Good Luck.

If it is required to maintain the warranty, by Yamaha, then I would suggest you tell them your disatisfaction. If they can get away with having after service requirements that the customer pays for why not? Why not require to have the motor brought in to make sure the prop is tight after 20 hrs. of service? Are the motor bracket bolts tight. Did they prep the trailer on your new boat correctly? Why not super glue the controls to the boat?
