ok my ptt on my 90 135 black max has gotten the best of me. first off the seals were going on the rod and ram and then the damn fluid cap wont come off. the manual release valve is stripped. the PO must have removed the tilt lock lever because its no longer there. i tried using an easy out to remove the cap but threaded it too much and no im worried about the plastic shavings in the pump.

so I decided to just bite the bullet and find a used on on ebay. however, i have the service manual and from the black/white photos it looks like the engine was removed and placed on a stand. but it doesnt mention if it has to be removed from the boat. so my question is, do i have to remove the motor off the transom to replace the entire system? right now its stored outside covered in in freezing temps.

sorry for the long post

I was able to remove the PTT unit on my '93 Merc 135V6, w/o removing the motor. I tilted the motor all the way up, and locked it up. Next I put a block of wood between the tilt tube and the transom top, to support some of the motor weight. This allowed me to remove the starboard transom bracket, and then the PTT unit.
