This has probably been covered before but I did search and came up empty.

I am going to winterize this weekend and I want to pull the drive to inspect and check alignment. Do I need to drain the gear lube?
I did a complete drain and fill in the spring and I have checked it recently by draining just a tad and it looks perfect.

Would rather not dump it but if I need to I will. If I remember correctly there is a check vavle between the gibmal and outdrive, right?

Its an Aplha one Gen II

Thanks

You do not need to drain it.If you have a remote res you will have to deal with that but your gear oil will not run out by pulling the drive.

Thanks!

I guess I can just clamp the res hose and deal with the little but that leaks out. Is there any danger of introducing air into the system when I reassemble and release that clamp?

Technically, the check valve is between the bellhousing and drive.

If it were me doing it this way, I would hook the pump/bottle up to the fill hole, take the top off the bottle, release the clamp, give it a few minutes, maybe even loosen the vent screw a little to see oil was there, then pump some in until the bottle was at the proper level.

no need to clamp off anything. The valve prevents the bottle from draining
