I'm buying a new (to me truck) to tow my boat. 2001 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8L V8.
My boat is a 19' Stingray I/O which specs at 2600 lbs. Add trailer, gas, etc. I'm thinking maybe 4000 lbs? My current truck is a V6 with a transmission cooler and it has held up pretty well. Think I should get a cooler on my new truck? Thanks...

Brian

Hi, BRG.

Get the whole towing package on the new truck, and be sure it is tow-rated for at least 5,000lb.

Good luck. :)

Re: Do I need a transmission cooler?

A transmission cooler costs way less than a burnt tranny. Even a dirty clogged cooler is bad news as well. I had one that the one end of it had lots of debris covering it. It then overheated the trans because it wasn't cooling the fluid. I had to have the boat and vehicle towed. :(

So if your towing, a cooler is a good thing to have, and always check to make sure it has a good airflow over it.
