I have an 18' Starcraft aluminum with 120 I/O and am thinking of either re-doing my trailer or finding a used one with what I need.

The boat and trailer is 2600 lbs (almost full load) so, legally, I don't need brakes. But I want them and don't have them. As well, I need to convert the trailer to bunks as I hate the rollers.

So, would I be better off working with a known good trailer and adding brakes (~$1,200 Cdn) and bunks or am I likley to find a good trailer for around $1,500 Cdn so I can convert this one into a utility trailer or sell it as is?

I think you will need to spend about $2500 to $3000 Cdn for a real nice new trailer. Don't know what your used trailer market is like, but around here, used are priced about 75% of new, and often not worth it.

If you are real handy and have the time, do the conversion. If not, I would save up to buy a new one.
