Do I need a different prop for my 454/Bravo Combo

For those of you that do not go into the resto forum, I just finished a huge deck and stringer job on a 1995 Sea ray 220 Signature BR. Everything is working great, but I am wondering if I am not using the right prop. She gets out of the hole ok, but falls on her face at about 50 gps. The boat weighs 4400 pounds (got it checked) and someone said I should be getting closer to 60 on this boat. When i trim up to get the bow up, I get lots of slip

The prop I have is a 48 13700-A41- 19p

What is your WOT RPM at 50 MPH?

According to Boattest.com, a brand new 4200 Lb Sea Ray with a 375HP 496 has a max speed of 49.1 MPH. Your 4400 lb Sea Ray with 330 HP will probably have a hard time going faster than it.

My 4000 lb 22' Crownline with a 425HP 496HO does about 65 MPH. You're down about 25% on HP from what I'm running, and you have 10% more weight. 25% of 65 is 16 MPH which would put you right at 49 MPH.

You're running about 330 HP (if you're running the original 15 year old engine, you're probably not seeing the entire 330 HP) in a 4400 lb boat, I would think you'd be doing good to hit 50 MPH, much less anywhere near 60 MPH.

But hey, all it'll cost is money for you to experiment with different props if you're not satisfied!

You are not going to see 60 mph out of that boat/motor combination. You could try a 21 pitch, if your RPM's are high. Otherwise, what you see is what you get.

That is what I thought. That is why I come here instead of talking to the drunks at the Marina.

What you really need behind that 454 is a BravoIII dual prop

While we are bench racing, My 5.7 VolvoPenta hit 60 mph consistently earlier this year...

I have a 24ft Arriva, probably pushing 4500 lbs with a 454 330hp. I run a 23p on it and when it is low on fuel (has a 70 gal tank) and just me in the boat I can get it to just bounce off the 60mph peg. When I have the family with me it can get right at 50mph.

Still need to know your WOT rpm. My 1998 crownline 225 cuddy would hit 49mph on the GPS with 5.7 and 4 barrel carb w/ bravoIII. That was at 4700-4800rpm. HTH.

That is another problem. The Tach is off, and I am having a hell of a time fixing it. I checked the dial and played with that, and it still reads 6k at WOT.
