On a Minn Kota 12v trolling motor? If so, does it have to cost $40?

Thanks!

Its safer to have one. Shop around and you can find an inline fuse cheaper than that.

$40 for a 40A breaker is rediculous. Any store that sells boating parts and accessories has them for a fraction of that cost. Auto-resettable breakers are a better solution than a fuse although a fuse is the cheapest of the two. Carrry plenty of spares.

Yall are looking at the big expensive must look good circuit breaker. You can get by with just a fuse and a spare, or the cheapo circuit breaker any good marine place has, just doesn't want you to see because they make very little $ off it. Mine I believe was under 6 bucks. Puny little thing about an inch by an inch, with two screw tabs, and a itsy bitsy button to reset. It ain't water proof and has exposed terminals, but it surly beats the 40 bucks. Put it inside a electrical conduit junction box, (the kind with the rubber gasket and screws to completely keep water out) and you are good to go.

Try a local Harley Davidson shop (not the dealership). All custom v-twin bike shops will have breakers you could use. They use them all the time. Us foreign bike guys opt for fuses though ;)

Edit: The ones they use on the v-twins if I'm not mistaken have water tight internals but exposed terminals. With some Vaseline or even spark plug boot grease on the terminals, it should help with fresh water corrosion.

I've been running TM's since they came out. Never blew a breaker or fuse. I'd opt with the elcheapo solution and put in a 40 amp fuse; waterproof of course.
