do I have the right trailer ?

I have a Stamas,26.5 (very heavy). With the outboards and brackets it comes to 30 feet. The trailer I have rocks up and down at the hitch and I really feel it in my F-150. How should the boat sit on the trailer ? It has twin 250's so she's back heavy. Some one mentioned to me that the trailer should be longer. It's 26 feet from hitch to end. Any ideas ?

If your boat is 26.5 and your trailer is 26 that doesn't sound right. Is boat hanging 4 or 5' off back? Or did you perhaps mean trailer is 36'? Is it at least tandem axle? Do you know total wt and toungue wt? Sounds like a big load for a F150.

BL...

BLifsey is right. Check your tongue weight! You sound like you may have too much balance. You probably will have to move the tongue to compensate. How does it tow? Does is wag?

Bob

Re: do I have the right trailer ?

blifsey : The trailer is 26'. It does hang off the back allot, especially when I move the engines to there up position. This boat was always in the water at a marina and hardly ever trailered. It has two axels. I don't know the total weight or tounge weight. There is nothing written that I can see off handThe tounge is welded on the trailer and has no play. The F-150 4X4 pulls it just fine with no noticable effort. I do need the 4X4 to get it up the ramp. Stopping is a chore, but I just take it slow.
Bob_vt : I imagine that I can get a larger toungue put on, can't I ? The truck tows just fine and does not wag at all. It does how ever move up and down allot at the ball hitch to tounge area. I can feel the back of the truck "wanting" to rise up if you will.
Should I look into another toungue or a larger trailer ?

Thank you both !!

Hi josepr, I would get a larger trailer. With the bracket adding additional leverage for the weight of your motors, you're lucky your boat hasn't cracked or broken. Some nice water you have there. :)

It would also seem that the lifting he is feeling is the weight actually trying to pull the tongue off of the ball. I would not drive this thing at all the way it is unless you have really good insurance and a great lawyer.....

Based on your response...

Check your tongue weight it usually can be increased by moving your winch assembly forward which will increase the weight. It almost sounds like it is balanced and wanting to lift off.

A solution might also be a weight distributing hitch here is a samlpe of some http://www.hitches-forless.com/WD/wd_hitches.htm

Bob :)
