Do i have a vortec?

Excuse my ignorance but i am not familiar with chevy's. Boat is a 1996 mercruiser 5.7 and from what i was told it could be either. Can anybody tell from the picture

count your intake manifold mounting bolts (cant see in your picture). if you have 8, then yes, you have a vortec. if you have 12, then no, you have a 1995 motor.

however based on the motor lifting lug on the front corner of the intake manifold and the angle of the bolts, I am going to say no.

Typically, the boat manufacturers didn't get the Vortec engines until 97. 96 for cars. Count the intake manifold boats like Scott said to be sure.

Didn't the Vortec engines all ship with plastic valve covers? First look, I'd say that was a pre-Vortec motor just by virtue of the tin covers.

Pulled the pic, rotated it and zoomed in. Intake bolts are at 90 degrees to the heads, not vertical.... Nope, not a vortec

Kind of thought it might not be a vortec, oh well it's not like i have a speed boat anyway
