Do I have a mystery suzuki?

Every time I order parts for my suzuki they turn out wrong. It is an 83' model EL50 and it says cabrea on the cowling. I figure it's just like a DT50 but I know that the carbs are different and the impeller I just tried to put in is too small to go around the shaft. The # next to the model is 05003 and the serial is 803383. Does anyone know what's different about this?

On a side note when pulled the old one it had 1 fin left (but it was still kinda pumping). I recovered the other 4 fins but I couldn't find about 3/16" missing off the tip of one. How worried should I be about this- enough to start taking parts off to find it?

A long shot would be that it was built for sale in a different country. Un sold there and imported to your area and sold, a common
practice. Try a year different one way or the other for parts. The 8***xx ser no is a 88 yr. in the US, but the mod is different.
As for the imp piece, don't worry about it.
It may show up in the thermostat.
...have fun...corm

The 50 and 65 hp model was a 2 cylinder model up to 82 or 83 - after that it was a 3 cyl model.
Is yours a 2 or 3 cyl?
:p

This motor is a 2 cyl model with tilt/trim 20" shaft. Some stuff looks the same as a DT50 such as the wiring according to Clymers. But the carbs look nothing like the DT50.

Re: Do I have a mystery suzuki?

I figured out that my 83' suzuki really takes an impeller for an 84'. Maybe this was made when they were changing over to some 84' parts. However, water is coming out of a hole at the bottom of the midsection while on muffs. This is about 2" above the cavitation plate. I didn't notice it before but may have been. Anyway, it seems to be pumping well. I will try to insert a pic.

Re: Do I have a mystery suzuki?

I got another mystery on this motor: There are several wires that come out of the control box. One for tach, one for hour meter, and one for the ground. However, there is also a pink wire and a light blue wire. These wires are not on my Clymer's wiring schematic (these are not the T/T wires). Would anyone know what these wires are for?

Also when I was hooking up the tach, I set it to the 4 pole position. It seemed to be the only one that made sense according to my ear while the engine was running. Does 4 pole on a 2 cyl sound right?
