Do I drain gearcase to do waterpump?

Thats what the service manual says. 85ESL74 (85 hp, 1974 Johnson). Also, anything else I should check before I start the motor (hasnt been run for a few years)? it is not seized and it looks nice and clean. Maybe Ill change the hoses... Thanks

its probably something along the lines of changing the batteries in the smoke alarm when you roll the clocks ahead ...<br /><br />just a good time to do it<br /><br />of course, there are a half dozen guys here that could answer that question in minute detail, theyll be along shortly<br /><br /> :D

No you do not have to drain the oil while doing the waterpump.<br /><br />But while you are there...it would not hurt.<br /><br />TMD
