Do gasoline, sunlight and gelcoat mix well?

I recently had the fuel hose from my outboard tear and spray straight gasoline (no oil mixture) in the cockpit of my sailboat. I attempted to rinse it right away with water and absorb it with a chamois, but to no avail. The next day there was distinct discoloration, but I can't tell whether it's just temporarily stained or it has eaten into the gelcoat and is permanent.

Anyone had experience with this? Is there any antidote?

Use a polishing compound, then wax with a good marine wax and you should be alright. I am always spilling gas on my gel and it cleans up with no permament damage. Good luck...
