Do boats normally have sinks in the floor?

I bought the boat, but I am still trying to figure out why there is a sink. There looks like a drain in the bottom of the "sink", but there is no water source etc. It is located in front of the cuddy cabin opening and it doesn't look like there is suppose to be a cover or something over it.

MAybe it is there so you can stand straight while you are chatting with someone in the cabin,

does it have a drain or any other hole in it

I would think there would be a cover for it - but don't know I can only dream about boat that have cabins

There is a drain and I would think it is for a cooler/live well, but it is in such an odd place and there is no lid for it. There is no bevel where a lid would sit flush on it. It could be a Urinal lmao!

Thanks it is a 2000 Maxum 1900 SC.

It's a step.

It is there to enable one to step down before entering the cabin so one is at a better height for the door before going in. Most boats make you duck the door and simultaneously fall into the cabin at its lower height. Most boaters know this little maneuver. It would be nicer to step down before you go into a controlled fall on slick surfaces with low doorways.

It is also stacked and lined up nicely with the other steps going up and over. You can come down and go up in a more fluid motion, even all the way over onto the bow.

Oh, and coming out of the cabin, it helps with the transition going from below deck to on deck.

That's it.

Boating: the only realm where one can confuse a step with a sink. Tune in tonight for the next episode of "What is this thing on my boat?", when the iboaters confuse a glove box with a valve cover.

Ain't boating fun? :D

Good answer Philster:)

My dad's Seaswirl 24' cuddy could use one of those. I'm 100% sure we wouldn't have known what it was for right away either if it did;)

if you start thinking about the word sink and it's other meanings then you will realize that it actually could be called that
