A rock took a chip out of the windshield today, thinking about one of those windshield repair kits, anyone have any experience with them?

Re: diy windshield repair

If your insurance doesn't cover it, what I did on my truck is with a glass cutter, just scored the end of the crack lines. This I did to prevent the cracks from running across the entire windshield. I then took it to a glass place that repairs windshields. They do someting to the windshield and put some kind of epoxy to seal it. He did warn when they hook up the pump the cracks could run. I knew that wouldn't happen because I took care of that. He then said he could not remove the lines I put on the glass. It's been a few years and hasn't gotten worse.

If you mean one of the repair kits that use the syringe to inject an epoxy like stuff into the crack........... Yes I have used one. I used the repair when the crack was small (less than 1/4 of an inch across) and it held up for 4+ years. It may have held longer but I sold the car.

Yeah the ones that inject the epoxy, just wondering if it was worth the time and money to try it on my own or take it some where.

Even the regular glass shops usually ony charge 25-30 bucks for repairs. Not worth trying or doing myself.

I had that happen to my GMC pickup in 2002, rock hit about 4 inches above the dash and left a quarter sized spider web, I used some stuff from auto zone, injected it in and so far it has not spread, It did not disappear but did look a little better.........If it had happened up higher in my field of vision, I probably would replace it...

I got a chip in mine last summer. I did nothing and all was fine until it got below zero. Then is cracked the windshield. Fortunately it cracked below my line of vision. There is a place around here that comes right to your house and installs a new glass in your car. But, they can't do it until it gets above freezing. I just hope the cops don't pull me over and give me a ticket before then.
