What kind of paint do you recomend for a 1980s black merc? how do you prep surfaces? This paint job will be done in a small shed so I cant get to technical

Here, here, here, or here As for prepping the surfaces, a light sanding and maybe a coat of zinc chromate. You can get some zinc chromate in that first link I gave you.

I finished painting an 850XS about an hour ago.I scuffed it with 600 grit.Primed the bare aluminum spots with zinc chromate.I used Sherwin Wiliams Dimension urethane enamel.Phantom black code is 55360.Any of their automotve stores can mix it.Sprayed it with a conventional spray gun.Paint,converter and hardener were $59.Looks fantastic.I'll let you know later whether it stays on or not.
