on a previous thread i had explained how my advance arm would bind up only at operating temp. i got some great help and good answers to my questions. i tried bending up on the s clamps that hold down the nylon ring, didnt work, aslo tryed shim washers again it didnt work. so i did some reading in the sealog manual and it was saying if there is an advance problem,or hard shifting, that there is a berring between the powerhead and the lower unit that could be gone and the powerhead would have to be removed(something i dont wanna do unless its absalutly nessasary). know IF this berring was gone, wouldnt the arm bind up all the time, and not just at opperating temp.? i am just getting really fed up with having to remove the cover and advance it by hand,or wait till the motor cools,to drive the boat back in. going on 3 years with this problem and still can not fix it, and it is a great strong motor and i dont want to be fourced into buying a new one if this one can be fixed! but thanks for talking the time to read this and any comments and answers are greatly appreceated.

Bearing between the powerhead and lower unit???? Not that I know of. If they are suggesting the top main bearing in the powerhead heating up, it seems like it would totally destruct long before 3 years.

It would seem to me there's gotta be something wrong with the fit of the timer base bushing on the crankcase head. But I know you have looked at it many times, but I have not.

thats what i also thought so i got a used nylon ring and it still happend, so then i got a new one and it still happened, it only happeneds when the motor gets to opperating temp. witch leaves me totally lost.

Isn't there a brass bushing in the timer base that pivots on the crankcase head? I'm thinking that the clearance of those parts is off (too close a fit). Something got through QC that was a few thous off. Warms up and gets tighter. Just guessing from here.

yea that was another thought i had, i had anti-siezed the crap out of it hoping that it would help but it didnt. so i am wondering when my waterpump blew and it heated up if it could have worped the brass sleeve, although i didnt see any signs of heat damage. so should i look for a new base plate or mabye have mine machined out a wee bit?

i belive to have found my problem it is where the baseplate rides on the crankcase head i can see some score marks on the baseplace and the crankcase head,(the round part that looks like a hockey puck that the bearing sits in). i know that the bearing has to be pressed in with an arbor press (or a big enough socket) but does the hockey puck looking thing get pressed into the crankcase head also, because if it does i think i can get that pushed down and my problem should be fixed!
