Re: disconnecting shift linkage to drop lower unit ?????

Put at least one bolt back in, you don't want it to hang from the shift rod as you will bend it, should be 6 bolts in the lower- 4 on the sides and 2 under the cavitation plate.

Disconnect battery-remove starter(3 bolts)-the bolt you need to pull is under the motor ,port (passenger) side.
You will need an 11mm socket with a swivel and a long extension to get to it.

Put the motor in forward before you pull it, this makes it alittle easier to get it back together, also there is a small gap at the front between the lower and mid section where you can grab the shift rod with needle nose vise grips to help line it up.

Be careful not to turn the shift rod when the lower is out.
