I am having one headache after another with my oil injection system. Can anyone point me to a web location that explains how to disconnect/remove it?

Mixing has got to be better than the troubles I've been having with this thing.

Thanks, Michael

Must be the earlier autoblend. Simply disconnect the fuel line coming out of the reservoir and plug it onto your priming bulb, 50:1 mix and your away. Oh dont forget to unplug the alarm cable from your autoblend.

Good luck Keith B...Keep it simple..

What about the oil pump shaft? Do I have to disconnect it (remove it)? Also, what about the air line going to the remote reservior? If I plug it, will anything else be affected?

Thanks

Yes, you have to remove the shaft and plug it. Plug the air line also...

One more question...

I've never had the oil pump off before so can you tell me if I can take of the pump, remove the shaft and replace the pump? Or do I have to cut a piece of metal and bolt it over the square hole that the oil pump came from? Is that what you mean when you say plug it when refering to the shaft?

Sorry, 3 questions

Thanks

No, you need a special plug/cover that has a long plastic shaft to retain the driven shaft bushing. Available from some dealers and the RacerRick website.

Re: Disconnecting/Removing Oil Injection System

Jim,

Thanks for responding. Where (on the web) can I see a picture of this plug/cover? Not familiar with the RacerRick website. Tried .com .net .org but none of them worked.

Please excuse my ignorance if this sounds stupid. It's only due to my lack of experience with this system.

I was wondering, however, what would happen if I simply removed the driven gear, disconnected and capped all the oil and air lines from the necessary places (i.e. remote reservoir, engine mounted tank, oil pump i/o ports), removed the link rod, and reinstalled the oil pump without installing the driven gear.

There is an adaptor between the driven gear and the worm gear that has a collar on it that prevents this adaptor from going past a certain point in the block. The bushing on the oil pump has an o-ring that seats against this collar. My question is that if the pump is not turning and everything is disconnected from it why is a plug/cover necessary? Everything is sealed and no oil is being pumped. In actuality, the oil pump has been isolated from everything - including oil.

Just some thoughts after reading the manual and removing one of the pumps to see what's involved.

97 Mercury 175
Carbs, Oil Injection

Thanks, Michael

Re: Disconnecting/Removing Oil Injection System

Exactly what kind of headaches is your injection system giving you? Maybe we can be your "Aspirin". These systems are much more reliable than the bad press they seem to get. You'll hear endlessly about the one that failed, but never hear of the 99 that worked just fine for the life of the motor.

You can't just leave the hole open. It isn't sealed from that chamber of the crankcase. The shaft on the plug mentioned holds a bushing in place or it can come out and do some significant internal damage.
