Re: disconnect oil injection ?

The posts always say it is better to keep injection. Why would you want to remove it? I tested my precision blend output the other day as per the manual. It only takes a couple of minutes and is very easy. Your only problem will be getting a container to measure less than 1ml.

The gap will be around 1mm but without the manual I'm guessing. Depending upon the plug it may come preset.

The Yamaha oil injection systems seems very reliable. what motor is it?

Not sure of the gap for the 25hp, but most any other Yamaha uses 1mm (or 0.039")

There are two posts near the top regarding oil injection at this time, both Yamaha. May not be your motor and may be simple problems. All mechanical systems fail, period. Taking my Suzuki back to premix eliminated more questions and concerns than mixing gas and oil created. Just my two cents. Oil starvation is catastrophic. Weak or aged systems can stop oiling on one or more cylinders for many reasons.

I have always removed oil injection on outboards and mixed myself. You can remove the pump and buy a blank off plate for a c-series motor.Make sure you drain your carbs and run premix thru the engine.

I disconnected it because the oil cutoff was makeing the engine quit , My test was ,disconnect the Oil injection tube . Leave the Oil in the reservoir , And the sensor in the head hooked up and see if it still cut's off , And it does not , I am not a really particular type , And I am self employed . So I have precious summer here , And it works this way , And I don't want to miss a few trips, if its fine till the summer rush is over ,then I will have reasonable turn around time at a repair shop . then I will take it in ,But I hope to run it for a few day's .

Re: disconnect oil injection ?

On my 86 40hp I'm just leaving the oil injecton connected but I'm mixing my fuel tank at 100/1 so after the oil injection adds to it, it should come out at 50/1. After I lost a cylinder on my 50hp Johnson due to the lean 100/1 mix I'm running all of them at 50/1. I'd rather have a little smoke than fried parts.
