Disappearing replies--why?

Have others noticed that some posts and relpies have been disappearing lately? I'm not talking about any "debates" or non iboats recommendations.

Example 1; I posted a warm "thoughts are with you" comment to JB's recent difficulty, I read it a while later, now it is gone.

Example 2; I read a post and replies on testing motor electronics. I went back to the same post to re-read the details, and half of the responses are gone.

I don't get it. Is the server messing up?
Are people screwing up in the posts, and they are being deleted? If administrators are editing or deleting, could they let us know, or atleast let the offending party know what they did wrong?

Concerning products that iboats sells;
Why are some of the posts recommending non iboats sites for products allowed, while others are deleted or locked. I read atleast 5 posts today that should have been edited/deleted. I had a reply in which I recommended the iboats mega mall for a part mysteriously vanish.

I'm not trying to cause a fuss or argue, just want to know the rules so I don't break them.

I'm really confused about examples 1 and 2.

Re: Disappearing replies--why?

I am confused, too, Roscoe.

I have no idea how the first two examples happened.

We do try to leave posts alone that do not offer competition to iboats in selling or recommending competition.

I have had the feeling that a post was deleted, but if I think hard about it I may have hit the "back" button instead of the "Post Reply" button.

I did screw up and move a thread that I misread, but I didn't delete it. I have moved it back now.

I have deleted duplicate threads and double posts where there were no replies. Perhaps you had gotten in a reply that I didn't see.

My apologies if I have deleted something that should have been left alone. I didn't mean to.

Maybe your browere isn't automatically reloading every time. I have that problem, and have to reload every time(cause I havnt taken time to figure out how to set up the autoreload properly.

Re: Disappearing replies--why?

JB, I think these things are bigger than all of us put together.

I think it could be, OR could it be, a problem with the Infopop software or server? I have seen replies that appeared in the wrong posts. One was obviously a reply that belonged on another website, something about collectibles (not boats).

There's a ghost in the machine.

As for the page reloading everytime; depending on which operating system you have, and which browser you use, it can be as easy as "checking" a box to load the page everytime it is visited. I also empty/delete my temporary internet files everytime the browser is closed. This slows down the loading a little, but you know you are getting a fresh and current download. I wouldn't recommend deleteing all the temp internet files if you have a very slow connection. I'm no expert on all the software, but I'm sure someone here could tell you where to go click click.

Thanks.

Re: Disappearing replies--why?

I think we are the largest message board out there using this version of infopop's software. When we have gone to them in the past for support they have advised us that because we are so much bigger than anything else out there, all bets are off. They then try to sell us on an expensive alternative solution.

Please let me know if you see anything funky going on. Thanks!

It's me, your friendly behind the scenes admin that no one knows about. :D

If you see one of your posts vanish off the face of the earth, let me know right away. That way I can crack open the files and get to the bottom of this problem.

Simply email me at landon@iboats.com. If you could include the following in your email it would be incredibly helpful:
- The forum your post was in.
- The name of the topic.
- The approximate date and time you posted your comments.

Thanks for your help and happy boating!
