I saw a comercial today about this red colored fishing line that is supposed to be invisable under water. Has anybody heard of this or tried it? Just curious.

Heard of it, when exposed to UV light, the red is bright, when removed from UV (underwater) it goes clear.

Re: Disappearing fishing line??

Is this a new trick with UV light - or just another red line (like Cajun) taking advantage of the fact that the color red fades into the background under water because of it having such a short wavelength? I don't really understand the physics of it.

Why not use clear line? Because sometimes you have to be able to see your line to detect strikes, like with crappie jigs or wacky-rigged senkos or weightless flukes or whatever.

But the red hooks attract fish because it looks like blood..........????

It was cajun line what I saw. I think I'll stick with clear for now as I tight line fish.

Berkley makes a line like that but it is yellow.
Here is the add;

Berkley® Vanish® Transition™ Line
Virtually invisible under water so fish don't see it, yet it "transitions" to gold above water for higher visibility to the angler. Simply put, the fish aren't spooked and anglers can detect strikes faster. Maintains strength and abrasion resistance and is super easy to control with improved knot strength. Color: Clear/Gold.

Ok, Ok, I broke down and bought some cajun red line at Academy sports last night. I'm a sucker. I hope it works as advertised. It was only $5.44 for 1450 yards for 10# test.

Your best bet is still fluorocarbon because it's refractivity matches that of water exactly. This causes it to disappear while under water.

Ah I still use SUNLINE FC SNIPER and dont need to worry about seeing the line move ya just feel it with that stuff. Best line on the market today. I also have some Vanish Trans and have liked it so far although i use it for spinnerbaits and not worming.
