I just bought a 2012 Mercury 115 Efi (on a pontoon) from west Texas. It runs great, but idles rough. The more familiar I get with the motor, the more I see dust mixed with oil inside the intake. I carefully wiped out the throttle body, and cleaned the IAC valve (which seemed to improve the idle some). It was a little dirty. I also wiped down the MAP sensor and gave it a little squirt with electric cleaner ( wasn’t brave enough to squirt electric cleaner directly in the map sensor hole.).
My question is, what about the rest of the intake system? It looks like there are not a lot of parts to remove to pull the whole thing off and just give it a good old fashioned elbow grease cleaning. But maybe I am underestimating remounting it to the reeds etc. anyone want to discourage me from doing this with explanation. I have tools and mechanically inclined but I’m no mechanic. I am hoping the effort would lead to a smoother idle? Thoughts?
