Hi Guys, I had a problem this year with my boat hesitating and found that the anti-syphone valve on the gas tank was full of gunk. I have now drained and removed the tank from the boat, and the fuel sending unit and can see lots of crap on the bottom of the tank. What would be the best way to clean this out? Is there some kind of cleaner or fluid I can pour in the tank, slosh it around and pour out the the dirt?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Re: Dirty Fuel Tank

New, If the junk is loose, stick a hose in it and give it a good cleaning. Hot water, Brush, soap etc. Now empty the tank out and toss in some alcohol to absorb the moisture.

If the junk is stuck, toss in some nuts and bolts and some acetone, and swish it around. Now dump it all out.

Just Don't Do like a kid out on Piller Point did last Summer,.......
He got abunch of Water in his Fuel Tank on his Jet-Flea,.......

I like Chris's Plan,.......... 'cept I'd use Kerosene or Diesel, rather than Acetone........

Re: Dirty Fuel Tank

Thanks again for the replies guys, I'll give the soap and water a try. The stuff (blackish goo with the consistancy of maple syrup) isn't stuck to the bottom so maybe a good rinsing will do the trick.

Re: Dirty Fuel Tank

A steam clean is a sure way to clean it throughly, something I used to do before attempting to weld any fuel containers.
