I have a 1993 120 hp 4 cylinder Evinrude.
1) It started incredibly dirty. (I have had this engine for years and run it for hundreds of hours and it has never come close to this)
2) After many starts and short idling before stalling it finally pushed through it and ran more cleanly.
3) I tried new fuel a few days later and that seemed help and it ran better and much more cleanly.
BUT, about a week later (today), I noticed that the inline fuel filter, a small clear plastic one that I put just before the VRO/fuel pump is full of DARK fuel. This leads me to believe that oil is being leaked into the fuel supply. This would explain the extremely dirty start. Has anyone heard of this?
Does this require a fuel pump overhaul?
Can this be done on the VRO/fuel pumps found on this engine?
thanks in advance
