I have a 92 maxum 2100 with a force 120 l drive. took the boat out last week and got out of no wake zone, nailed the gas, got to about 35 mph and she died, restarted back to about 35 died. then and for the rest of the day would run top end gracefully but would not idle. idle was around 300 - 400 rpm. anything higher and she was fine.
brought it home changed plugs added sea foam, hooked up on muffs, idled like a champ. rev-ed fine and back to idle, no problem. problem solved i thought.
went to lake today, fired up off of trailer, while i was parking truck, she died. sounded great idled up, and ran great all day, no misses at all, no wake zones were great around 800 rpm. idle = death.
now on the first day, my old man (who will admit to knowing nothing about boats) "advanced my idle" im thinking maybe he decreased idle. i ordered the clymer manual about 2 weeks ago but have not received it. im mechanically inclined but know almost nothing about boat engines. hoping for maybe 3 or 4 more trips before winterization (btw it was 87 degrees here today!!)
Also the two rubber hoses connecting to outdrive (one is exhaust the other im unsure) is cracked to what seems like dry rot. was thinking maybe water got in exhaust line causing engine compartment to fill with smoke choking engine. but even with lid opened she still died.
also i guess i should replace those lines shouldnt i.
