Has anyone had any dealings with Directboats.com for a trailer purchase? I have a friend that recently purchased the 14’ boat economy trailer and is realizing that his boat does not fit even though he was told so. It will fit on the bunks as long as the keel bumper and winch are setup almost at the coupler (the actual trailer length is 13’7”). He is connecting to a ball on his bumper. If he does it that way he can’t turn. Is it OK to have an old flat bottom boat hanging off the bunks in the back fully loaded w/ a motor? We’re talking about hanging off about two feet. The guys at Directboats are telling him that is normal. Anyone agree, disagree? Not sure if he has the ability to attach a transom saver.

The Boat Has to set on the trailer so that the Weight Balance is, 10%/15% is on the Tongue,+ the 85%/90% is on the Wheels.....
I'm Just Guessing, But with the boat 2' back, your Tongue weight will be a Negative....
You'll have to Either Extend the Neape, Or the Bunks, and Possibly Move the Axle....

Balance is Much More Important, than a Transom-saver.....

How do you calculate the weight distribution?

Use a bathroom scale and place the trailer front wheel on it. About 50-70 kg (110-154 lb) is usually OK force on the trailer hook. You want some force on the hook, but not to much, and not to little.

/Bo
