Dip stick vs mechanic

This is why I should have done most if not all of my 100 hr service.
A month and a few outings after the service and just out of curiosity I pull the dipstick and find that there is no tip on it....and I can not determine what my oil level is.
I pull out my receipt and at the bottom of it it says-Quote- "Dip stick tip loose, removed tip so it would not dislodge in oil pan"
No mention of it when I pick it up, no replacement stick offered or ordered. I'm hoping that indeed he did remove it and it as opposed to it falling off during the service.:mad-new: I guess I'll have to source a new one up myself just to check the oil level
Anyone ever had their yellow plastic dip stick tip fall off?

Can anyone provide a link to where I might find a replacement dip stick for a 5.0 GXi-J?

Never heard of the end of the dipstick falling off before, and maybe no one with the same engine (whatever it is) as you has either. But that doesn't make much difference if you did.

So you had the tip almost fall off, order a new one and move on. Not sure what you have, but just above your post is links to oem Volvo parts.

Thanks Don. I edited in a VP 5.0 GXI-J. Found the link and ordered the $12 part.
My post was mostly a rant about the dealerships mechanic who deemed it proper to shorten a faulty? dipstick but not replace it...

Then tell them, not us. Nothing we can do except pat you on the back and blow smoke and tell you how it will be ok and how much we feel for you. But come on, it's a minor problem and noted on your invoice. Why didn't you read your invoice??????

Re: Dip stick vs mechanic

I didn't study the invoice at pick up as we were immediately heading out on an day trip.

But more importantly I was wanting some feedback if these plastic tipped dip sticks have been known to come apart?
I don't know if a piece of plastic 3/16" in diameter and 1" long loose in the sump could or would be likely to get stuck in the oil pick up, splash or float around and wreak havoc somehow, or just lay there forever? No, I'm not inclined to pull the engine/sump to find out, but knowing for sure just where that piece is would be piece of mind. Yes I do need to talk to them, but after this and the leaky drive billows after the service I have little confidence in them.
And yes, me pulling the drive for service is on my "must learn" list. Thanks Don for the links on this in another thread:D
