Dip stick / Oil level issues

I'm having oil pressure problems with my newly installed replacement engine. I have 50+ of oil pressure, then when I hit 3000 rpm's the pressure slowly drops to about 25 psi. If I drop the rpm's down to a bit the pressure jumps right back up to 50 psi. I thinks its a windage issue caused by too much oil in the pan, plus the boat boat run bow high when getting up on a plane.

I replaced a 1994 Mercruiser 5.7 MIE bluewater S/N F490119 that had an external dip stick that connects to the drain plug in the bottom of the pan. The new engine came with a 5 qt. oil pan, but it takes 6 quarts of oil to get the oil level to the bottom of the safe mark, and another quart to read full. Does anybody know how much oil the factory engine held? The parts manual said I should have dipstick #861942T2, does anyone know how long it is?

first, you have to use the dipstick for your new engine and new pan

if you are running too much oil, you will froth your oil. frothy oil doesnt lubricate vary well

regardless of what your 1994 motor had for an oil pan. you didnt put that oil pan on your new engine. so what oil pan do you have?

The new base engine came assembled with what I believe is a Mercruiser 14259 oil pan.

What I'm trying to figure out is what dipstick do I use with this oil pan and the factory dipstick tube 805384T?

do you have access to pull the pan? you may need to in order to calibrate your dipstick

i personally would run a full sump if you can.

the oil level is about 3.5" below the pan rail if the motor sits level

if your old pan is in good shape and is a full-sump, i would simply swap pans.

I'm trying not to pull the engine again. The company I bought this engine from said it should take no more than 5.5 quarts including the filter. Right now I have 6 quarts of fresh oil in the pan. I'll pull the oil filter and dump the oil in it, which should put me right at 5.5 qts. Ill run it and if it doesn't aerate the oil i'm probably good for now.

Problem solved. Apparently the engine came with a later model oil pan for a stern drive, which is not compatible with the factory dipstick used on the 94-95 mercruiser inboards. I put 5.5 qts of oil in the engine and ran it. 65 psi of pressure at 3200 rpms. Now I have to find a stern drive dipstick assembly for this engine.
Thanks for all you help guys.

just re-mark your existing dipstick
