I was connecting a new battery and reversed the post which cause smoke to come out from the hood of my 90hp Johnson. I connected the battery right and it started up and ran ok on a boat ride. Later, I looked to see what had burnt and this little part that I think is called the diode seems to have some melted rubber or insulation seeping out. Could this be the part that was smoking? If so, what does it do and should I change it? What else could have burnt by reversing the connections on the battery? Not sure what I should do.<br />Thanks,
