Anyone know where to mount the transducer on a pontoon boat? And how do they mount? This is for a depth gauge.

Re: digital depth gauge

Hi Markshop, a buddy of mine has a real nice pontoon with a small 9.9 on her. He mounted his transducer on the starboard side pontoon on the stern end. With his pontoon being aluminum, he didn't want to jeopardize the intergrity of the pontoon so we found a piece of 2 inch stainless steel square tube. Cut a piece of two inches long, drilled holes on two sides opposite of each other. We used tootsie roll epoxy to mount the stainless piece to his pontoon. We forced the epoxy to ooze through the holes and then pressed the epoxy down flat againt the inside of the tube. A half hour later we mounted the transducer to the stainless piece through the other holes. It has been on there for 3 seasons now and has'nt even shown signs of coming loose. Just make sure all your surfaces are clean for the epoxy to stick. Hope this gives you an idea.

Thanks for the idea. What exactly was the epoxy you used? I also was woundering if i could mount it on the underside of the transom or does it have to be at the water line?

Your transducer needs to be just below the water line or it won't work. What I call tootsie roll is epoxy in a stick. It is premeasured, you just cut or tear off the amount you need. Go to www.westmarine.com, type in epoxy stick and search will show everflex epoxy stick. I have used this stuff to mount 8 pound light fixtures to mirrors, to patch leaks (even with water flowing through them!), It is a good thing to carry in your boats care box. This stuff will stick to just about anything. Good luck,,,
