got this from a buddy. great pictures were included, but can't post them...

The Iraqi jet, an advanced Russian MiG-25 Foxbat, was found buried in the sand after an informant tipped off U.S. troops.

The MiG was dug out of a massive sand dune near the Al Taqqadum airfield by U.S. Air Force recovery teams. The MiG was reportedly one of over two dozen Iraqi jets buried in the sand, like hidden treasure, waiting to be recovered at a later date. Contrary to what some in the major media have reported, not all the jets found were from the Gulf War era.

The Russian-made MiG-25 Foxbat being recovered by U.S. Air Force troops in the photos is an advanced reconnaissance version never before seen in the West and is equipped with sophisticated electronic warfare devices.

U.S. Air Force recovery teams had to use large earth-moving equipment to uncover the MiG, which is over 70 feet long and weighs nearly 25 tons.
The Foxbat is known to be one of Iraq's top jet fighters. The advanced electronic reconnaissance version found by the U.S. Air Force is currently
in service with the Russian air force. The MiG is capable of flying at speeds of over 2,000 miles an hour, or three times the speed of
sound, and at altitudes of over 75,000 feet.

The recovery of the advanced MiG fighter is considered to be an intelligence coup by the U.S. Air Force. The Foxbat may also be equipped
with advanced Russian- and French-made electronics that were sold to Iraq during the 1990s in violation of a U..N. ban on arms sales to
Baghdad.

The buried aircraft at Al Taqqadum were covered in camouflage netting, sealed and, in many cases, had their wings removed before being buried
more than 10 feet beneath the Iraqi desert.

X Marks the Spot

The discovery of the buried Iraqi jet fighters illustrates the problem faced by U.S. inspection teams searching Iraq for weapons of mass
destruction. Iraq is larger in size than California, and the massive deserts south and west of Baghdad were used by Saddam Hussein to hide weapons during the first Gulf war.

U.S. intelligence sources have already uncovered several mass grave burial sites in the open deserts with an estimated 10,000 dead hidden there. In addition, Iraq previously hid SCUD missiles, chemical weapons and biological warheads by burying them under the desert sand.

U.N. inspection teams found the weapons in the early 1990s after detailed information of the exact locations was obtained.

Top U.S. weapons inspector Dr. David Kay is known to favor human intelligence as the primary means to find Iraq's hidden treasure trove
of weapons and secrets.

While there are rumors of Iraqi chemical and biological weapons being shipped to nearby Syria, the weapons may very well still remain
inside Iraq buried under the vast desert wastelands.

Some critics of the Bush administration have claimed that the inability of U.S. forces to uncover weapons of mass destruction is proof that the president misled the nation into the war with Iraq.

However, in recent days the critics have fallen silent as word quietly leaked from Iraq that major discoveries have already been made and are
now being documented completely.

I say once the proof is posted, we all do a mass lawsuit against the media giants. I wonder how they can make light of a 25 ton aircraft. :D

Thanks for the link Chris. No new information on which air craft are from recent times? They said in the article that some were not from the gulf war era. Thanks again, and I hope to see you eating your hat soon. :D

I hope to see in the not to distant future a press conference by the Prez telling of everything that the left has been saying and offering proof of it all being lies, Right along with news that we have finally captured OBL. But then the left will only say we had him all along and held him for political reasons.

Re: digging in iraq

So did they say when the last time these jets took to the air? Just curious.

With all the sophisiticated AWACS planes we had pretty much constantly in the air, and radar, along with the no fly zone that has been in place for a long time, I'd be curious just what they might have been taking recon info on. They'd been blown out of the sky had they ventured out of their box.

No offense, but I'll take this one with a grain of salt, and wait for independent verification.

We have had other military sourced stories from Iraq that seem to have exaggerated the reality a bit.

Hi, PW2.

I think that the media have a lock on exaggerating and distorting the real truth.

Given a choice between a story selected by some "news" editor in New York to get attention and cause consternation and anti-Bush hysteria and one from our military, I will take the story from the guys who are there, in it, every time.

PW2, let's face it. You'd be skeptical about anything that would prove that a Conservative was right. If GW said that black was, in fact, black, you'd still doubt it. Why acknowledging that a conservative was right just might mean that you'd have to acknowledge that conservatism was right. And we all know that that is just not gonna happen.

JB-

For what it is worth, I tend to be skeptical of most media stories, and look for as much independent verification as possible.
Especially those stories that seem to be timed to conveniently aid a certain political agenda, whichever side of the spectrum that may be on.

And I too put a bit more credence in some military sources, especially retired career military people like Schwartzkoff, Zinni, Clark--among others- I am a bit more skeptical of currently serving military, because there is a definite political component to what they can say publically.

I once had a history professor in college, and one time while visiting his office, I noticed that his wastebasket was full of torn out pages from some history text. When I asked him about this, he told me he reads a different text from a different author every semester on topics he is teaching, and then throws them out. He explained to me that if he reads enough different texts, from different points of view, he will get a better idea of what really happened. He was a cool guy!

And Boomyal, I have no idea what "conservatism"
is these days. I have always supported some of what I considered conservative points of view, such as free trade, protecting the constitution, etc. but I don't recognize any of those traits from the current batch of so-called conservatives.
