I am having problems with my STBD engine. When it has been setting for a day or so, it will crank right up. After I get out and on the hook for the afternoon, I have to pulse the throttle in throttle only to get it to start. It does so begrudgingly. When it does start, it kicks out what looks like fuel in the water and gives me the impression that it is flooded. Stands to reason if I am pulsing the throttle, but why does it take being flooded to start?

They both run about 600rpm at idle and when warm about 160+/- a little. After it cranks, it idles and runs just fine. It matches the port side in RPMS up to WOT.

I have been told that it is the fuel pump. I am not that confident that it is the fuel pump if it runs so good after it cranks and it does not do it all the time. Sometimes it will crank right up even when warm. Just baffling and driving me crazy.

I tend to not trust repair shops as they are in business to make money and at over $100 per hour plus service call can run into a lot of money just to diagnose the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!:)

5.0GIPEFS is the full model number. When was the last full tuneup?
Next time you go for a run, before you shut it off, remove the flame arrestor. Then shut it off and see if the injectors in the throttle body continue dumping fuel into your engine.

Yep,
Sounds like leaky injectors

Re: Difficult starting

Don,
Did what u said. Ran out on the lake and When the engine was shut down, the fuel stopped.
Seemed like a pretty good stream of fuel.
Is the fuel supposed to a mist?
I think i will compare the two engines and see.
Not knowing what the fuel flow shoild look like, it did seem like a over abundance amount of fuel.

I will try and get a picture of the flow.

Thanks
