Real quick thanks to everyone who has replied with help in the past, this site is great.

I have an 87 as well, but with the little 2.3liter. it is hard to shift, but my main problem is I cannot get the shift adjusted to the point where i can both shift forward and reverse. I can only adjust it to where i can get just one direction to work! the shift cable is black and the other one is red. it is also difficult to move the throttle, (the wife can barely get the throttle to move!) Do i need both new cables? or just the short one (black). how do i figure it out? I suppose i should check out that other website from the previous thread for the adjustment question...

Thanks as always.

Same thing happened to my Bayliner I used to own. A shift cable replacement solved the problem. Easy to change out if I rememenber....take your time. Got mine from West Marine.
