Hi,

I'm going to buy a Tohatsu motor today. I am wondering if the rumors of a 15 being the same as an 18 except just with a restrictor plate. Is this true? Can someone please dispell this myth if it is? Or is it a bigger carb, fuel rails, etc? Thanks all

Adam

IMHO if your boat is rated for 18+ pay for the 18 if not go with the 15. Even if it is easy to convert is the difference in cost worth tearing into a new motor.

My .02

Jon, thats a good point. I'm just kinda on a budget and the money I can save on the 15-18 would help me towards other necessities for my boat/toy :)

FWIW, I'm with Jon on this. In '97, I had a Nissan dealer tell me the diff between the 9.9 and 15 hp 2 strokes, was a different timing advance cam. After much thought, and the lure of saved dollars, I ended up with a 18hp ;-)
