difference between mariner and mercury

i have opportunity to buy at cheep price a mariner 200 hp.i presently own a blackmax 200 hp.someone can tell me what is the difference between the 2 brand?is parts interchangeable? thanks

The outside color of the whole thing is different. That is pretty much where the dissimilarities end.

Story I heard was... before painting the engines were test run. The ones that fired right up were painted black and the rest were painted grey:devil:

In the early days of Mariner, engines 60hp and less were Yamaha and the ones over, Mercury.

those 2 engines are exactly the same. mariner and mercury and exactly the same!

just like johnson/ evinrude or chevy/gmc or dodge/chrysler.... ge it?!?!?

my mariner mag 2 is actualy a xr4 mercury, all screws , zip ties, and hoses are identicle, same engines. ron
