I have a 2006ish BF40 and its great with just me or 3 people, but with the whole family is just a bit light on, I've played with the prop. I was thinking of using a chip that is spose to increase power by 15%. Is there anything else i can change to increase power?

Re: Difference Between Honda BF40 and BF50

The only way you know for certain what the differences are between the 40 and 50 is to go down the parts list. Even though the engine displacement is the same, Cam, compression, carburetion (or EFI) and exhust are routes to power in a four stroke motor. Those items are very expensive to change but very easy for the factory to implement when the engine is being built. The simply pull the appropriate parts from Bin B instead of Bin A. In most cases however, the ECU is responsible for fuel delivery and ingnition timing so that might gain the 10 HP. It may also require different fuel injectors. There are few cases where swapping a couple "cheap" parts provides any significant HP gain which is why conversions like you desire are not economically practical. But, as I said, check the parts lists.
