I have an injection pump on a diesel generator with an integrated fuel pump. I need to know what the lift capacity of the fuel pump is. I am wanting to know if it is capabable of lifting fuel from the tank to the generator without a low pressure supply pump incorporated into the system. The pick-up tube is 1/2 inch. Here is a diagram.

Re: Diesel Fuel Pump

Once it is running and primed I would imagine the integrated pump would do the trick by itself.

You can only try it...... worse case it will run out of fuel and stop.

What is the pumping pressure of the intergrated pump, its important as your stepping down alot to end up going through 1/4 inch, this sort of sounds like a math test of some suort

Personally I like a boost pump no matter what. That way priming is simple, and if there is a leak it is easy to find and it won't run like carp in the meantime . . . ;) What you have diagrammed doesn't seem like that big a deal. Anywhere from a 1ft. head to a 3 ft. lift. Seems within normal design stuff, but like you I don't have the specs.

If you lift your fuel tank above the hight of your fuel filter it will self prime with gravity feed. The only thing to look out for if you get the tank to much above the rest of the system you will have to much fuel psi and could damage the injection pump on your genset.Thats how we do it in our remote camps were simple systems are a must.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna give it a try, if it doesn't work.....I'm going to pull from the bottom of the tank.
