Its a 1978 165 HP I/O Mercruiser. Alpha 1 stern and engine is inline 6 cylinder.
Back in March we had a new addition to our family, baby girl, first child for us :joyous: . Long story short, never made it out on the water with the boat. Its been sitting in storage all year since I winterized it last year. And there is not any way we will make it out yet the rest of the year...
When I winterized last year I did all the standard stuff (sta-bil in gas, changed engine oil, changed gear oil, lots of fogging oil, drain water from engine, new spark plugs, etc). Also, batteries have been sitting at house on trickle charger all year.
I'm wondering if I need to go pull the boat out of storage and run it on muffs for a while then turn right around and re-winterize it? I'm really hoping I don't have to, just so much going on so not sure when I will get the time. But, at the same time, we should definitely be able to go boating next year, and I don't want to go to use it next year only to find out that I made a mistake in not re-winterizing it.
So curious what you all think, do you think I should re-winterize it?
I realize the gas prolly won't make it that long, so next year I will just drain it and put in fresh. Prolly not worth trying to throw more sta-bil in, prolly just be a waste of it.
Will the fogging oil in the cylinders still be good and coating everything? Or should I go and turn the engine over (without sparks attached) and spray more fogging oil in just to play it safe?
From reading other posts on the forums about this, it sounds like people have some mixed opinions but seemed like most people thought it was okay to not touch it if didn't use it. But the posts I found were a few years old and they weren't really clear if they were for I/O or outboards.
Any guidance you guys can offer would be appreciated.
