Did I toast my manifolds??????

Went out for a test drive today. After trying to restore my cooling system on boat (360ci mopar with a Volvo 270 outdrive).
I put the cooling system back together by following the pictures I took of the old motor. Come to find out it (the old motor) was jury rigged a hundred ways and when I rebuilt the system to what I thought was right I missed a hose connection (The "T" was missing from the raw water outlet). With to much water pressure I blew out a freeze plug (you guessed it,the one behind the flywheel). With all that water pumping straight through, the motors water temp was nice and cool. The only problem (except for the tons of water in the boat) was the manifolds were dry (water didn't make it that far before being let out of the plug) for about a 1/4 mile(4 mins) to the closest ramp($10.00 buck just to pull it out, they had me). The Question is "did I hurt the mannys by getting them that hot? Didn't here a pop like you would when metal cracks but the paint smoked on them for 3 or 4 mins after it was off.
P.S. The sad thing is I couldn't find a picture of the original cooling system after a month of looking. At the boat ramp I limped to, B-S ing with the mechanic, telling him my story while waiting for the wife to pick me up. He takes me to behind his shed throws a tarp off a complete original 318 mopar with a total Chrysler cooling system. I was so close.

It's critical cooling water circulates through the manifolds anytime the engine is running. You could pull your manifolds and pressure test them...but that won't tell you much unless a crack has already developed. How much manifold life was lost is anyone's guess.

I'm in the same boat after toasting my impeller by starving it of water when I ran the engine on a hose hooked up to a faulty hose bib that had practically zero water pressure. The engine overheated...I have no idea if or how badly I may have compromised the manifolds. But I know it sure as heck didn't help them any!

Walt
