i borrowed my friends 14 aluminum boat for some fishing this eve. on my way back i hit something with the prop, didn't seem that hard. i let off the gas for a few seconds then twisted the throttle to resume and the boat was "surging". it felt as if the prop was "slipping". like you could do with a clutch on a land machine? what did i do? and how much $ ???

Thanks

It sounds like you could have spun it. You can find props on craigs list but it is hit or miss. As you know not all people are honest. I tried to buy one that was advertised as new in a box for $50 (a steal) but it was gone before I got there. Prices range from $79 to $100 for aluminum. $165 or more for stainless! They will have to mark the metal hub with a line that references to the body of the prop and see if it moves the next time it slips.

Perhaps you drove through a weed bed.Weeds on the prop might cause a surging effect.
You can check the hub.Remove the prop and draw a water proof line across the hub. Take a ride and check the line.If its broken the hub is spun. They can rehub at a prop shop.

As with most things today It doesn't pay to rehub most small props, It will cost you $50 just to access that it has been spun!!!

So true. And this is an opportunity to up grade the prop, possibly for less than a repair.
You should try to confirm it is spun before any investment.
