Is direct fuel injection available on the smaller 2 stroke engines (2HP to 25HP)? Or to have a more enviro friendly boat, do you need to get a 4-stroke at these HPs? When did they start making the DFI engines for 2 strokes? Thanks.

portercat,

DFI showed up about 1997-depends on the manufacturer.

In that hp. range you'll need to go four stroke for now. The trouble with DFI in smaller engines is that the DFI systems require a failrly substantial electrical output which the smaller engines just do not have-yet.

Evinrude has small FICHT direct injected motors in testing. I saw a 3.3hp version that runs and starts with the first pull. When it comes out in production, who knows?
