I have a problem with my DF 140 and cannot seem to get it straight. Engine is 2003 that I bought back 5 months ago and it ran fine when I put it in my garage. Took the motor out the other day on a stand to fire it up as I am going to sell it now as my boat project is dead. I had put new plugs in the engine and drained the VST some time back. I hooked up the battery cables and wiring harness but I was distracted and here are a couple of missteps that are probably involved in my issues.
I did not tighten the ground cable on the motor all the way and I did not cycle the key switch enough times to properly fill the fuel rail and VST.( I realize this 2 days after)
I cranked the engine and it ran at idle for a couple of minutes (rough) and then cut off. I am getting 2 codes on the tachometer. CMP -Camshaft positions Sensor and then Cylinder Temp Sensor. Engine did not run long enough to even get warm.
Now the motor will not crank but I think that was due to the fuel priming not being complete. The reason I suspect this is I drained the VST again tonight and not much came out. I did not have time to try it again but I will on Friday.
So here is my question: If I go back and properly prime the fuel system and it fires up, will these codes clear from the ECM or is something else going on?
I am really stumped and do not want to sell the engine to the guy that wants it until it is right. Engine hours are 320 and it is in pristine condition with even compression at 195.
Thanks for your help and if it does not fire up after priming, then I am really lost.
