Destroyed my new prop. Not quite a tragedy.

I bring my boat in to work sometimes. Occasionally i need to bring some of the guys out to do service work on some water discharge lines we have running out into the river. The company buys me a tank of gas and a gallon of oil . Good deal for them and for me and since I'm the guy who signs off these things it works out well. Anyhoo I'm dragging a 6 inch PVC line out and the stern swun around and the prop smacked the PVC line and mangled my prop. I threw my aluminum prop on this morning just in case and I'm glad I did. My two week old 4 blade Solas 21 pitch just got toasted which is really fine with me since that prop wouldnt push me past 53 MPH at 6000 RPM. Hell, my 17 pitch 4 blade Solas stainless prop will hit 52 MPH at 6050. Good riddance I say. Now the guy who signs stuff ( me ) gets to buy me a new 22 pitch Raker prop.

Let us know how you make out with the new prop.
Usually a 4 blade is intended for hole shot, easier cruising at reduced throttle and better responce around the dock.
Not likely to produce best speed. The raker may struggle with these things but should excel at speed.

Iv'e got a power prop. I'm using the 17 pitch SOLAS 4 blade Titan 4. Great prop BTW. I'm hitting into the 50's at 6K with a 17 pitch prop. Can't beat that and it pops the boat right out of the water and accelerates very quickly. Given the great luck I had with the stainless 17 pitch I thought I'd try a 21 pitch aluminum from Solas. Unfortunately it was not as efficient as the 17 pitch it seems and it got relegated to doing stuff like I was doing today. It was my intention to buy a good 3 blade stainless speed prop some time but this just moved things up a bit. Found a good deal on a new Raker for $200.

I didn't get in on the whole story. The swap you mentioned seems way out of line to me. Bad performance could be the design of the alum. and I don't understand your numbers.........6k @17p in the '50's then up it 4-5" in SS. 4-5 ought to drop your rpm's 800 to 1000 putting you in the low 5k range which is the wrong side of the curve. Course the added performance of the prop and the fact that it could lift more of the boat out of the water at higher speed, thus reducing drag, thus adding more mph, etc. etc. may work for you.
