Depth sounder problem

My depth sounder works fine until the boat gets on plane, then it just displays the last preplane reading. When it comes off plane it reads fine again. It worked well until recently and is more of an issue with the low lake levels we currently have. What's going on with it?

Mine does the same thing...I believe it's fairly common for the depth finder readings to become erratic at higher speeds...maybe due to turbulence/bubbles back in the transom/transducer area?

Re: Depth sounder problem

first, is this a new problem? If so, check the bottom of the transducer. Mine does that when it gets barnacles on it.

Look at the transducer when you are on a plane to see if it's staying level

Might be something further forward on the hull generating bubbles, but it would take something fairly big.

If this has always happened, then it's getting bubbles around it or coming out of the water on a plane. Reinstall.
