Depth Measure \ Fish Finder

Hi,<br /> I have a 15ft Speedboat (60hp O/B)that I use in an area with many banks under the water. I have (in many occasions) been banked on the high sandbeds and am looking into buying a depth monitor to see how deep the water below is....<br /><br />I have been looking for a simple, cheap depth monitor but there seems to be very little between a depth monitor and a fish finder..!? What is the big difference??<br /><br />Can I use a fish finder, that also monitors water temp, speed and depth on my speed boat?<br /><br />The only simple depth monitor I have found is £90, but a Fish Finder with all the extras is only £120.<br /><br />I am also a bit confused with the Transcender? Does this go on the back or the bottom of the boat??<br /><br />HELP!! I'm confused? Can someone explain how it works?

gotta luv how you english talk !! around here it's hard to find just a depth finder it's always a combo fish & depth.. seems like when you can find one , it cost more. you can't go wrong with either,, they both operateon the same science.. get the one that has the features you want & if it comes with a fish finder ,, just as good , then you can see the little fishy's.. the transducer mounts on the transom so the face of it hangs about an 1/8 inch below the boat hull .. you buy one , an it'll come with instructions..

Thanks Crab Bait.....I think!<br />I'll go ahead a buy a fish finder combo.<br />I was worried the speed and movement of the speedboat might cause a fish finder to be less accurate.<br /><br />Thanks

when you go fast the fish finder really doesn't work..but the depth finder still does.. but remember that when goin' fast,, you still could be up on a sand bar before you know it .. just keep an eye out for changing depths.. most even have programable shallow warning alarms..

Hi there, I'm also looking to get a depth finder for my 20' Bayliner and was looking at the Hummingbirds when I saw this post.<br /><br />Does anyone recommend a good brand? I will be doing more cruising than fishing. My cruising speed is 40mph.<br /><br />Mike

Three brands I would recommend: Eagle, Eagle, Eagle. Stay away from H-Birds, fog easily and manufacure service support not so great. This is just my opinion and most of time I don't know what I'm talking about.

hummingbirds are well made units,, I have no complaints there, but they skimp badly on the transducers and don't support their product all that well.<br /><br />I'd go with the eagle as well...<br /><br />rgds<br /><br />Frank
