Depth Finder on a Ski Boat?

I purchased a used 19 ft bow rider a couple of weeks ago. I want to put in a depth finder of some kind. Not much room to mount a fish finder. I was thinking of one of the 2" gauges I could install in the dash. I was wondering if anyone here has experience with this? How well to the shoot-thru-the-hull transponders work?

I've got one of those on my boat (Humminbird HDR200), not the through hull though.
Works great, nice to just have a little 2" gauge rather than the huge fishing setup.
Depthfinder off the back works well for me, but through hull would be even nicer I think.

Yeah, I bought a boat with all the gauges except for a depth gauge. I went on Ebay and found one for $95, some go for over $200. It's a thru hull, and they recommend using epoxy to mount it. But I found a nice clean spot, as far back as possible and near the keel, and used silicone to mount it (I also sanded the hell out of the location). Works great! This location allows it read at high speeds (needs to be over water, any air between the transducer and the bottom will make it not read correctly). Hope this helps.

I have one of the small 100 buck Humminbirds and a thru the hull transponder. It works great. I made a mount out of aluminum and mounted it below my dash next to my right leg....Nothing fancy. I just cut a piece of and old street sign in the shape I wanted with my jigsaw. Cut the hole out with a hole saw. Painted it black to match the dash. Then, bent it to the angle I wanted and bolted it in place using an existing hole.

Through hull transducers work just as well as ones mounted on the transom. Just mount it on a flat spot and make sure there are no air bubbles it the epoxy between the hull and transducer. I prefer the hull mounted transducers over the the ones mounted on the transom. Less holes drilled in your boat.

Thanks guys! I was just looking at the Hawkeye mico depth finder. I may try one of these.
