Not one of the dem's running for president are interested in the moderate wing of their party. Someone tell me again that the left wing whacko's haven't set the agenda for the liberals.

Hows this for a long shot, General Wesley Clark. Seen enough Clinton's and Bushes to last two lifetimes.:(

<<Through WesPAC, General Clark will put his 34 years of military and diplomatic experience to work to ensure that Democrats will never again be viewed as ?weak on defense? or ?weak on national security? or somehow ?lacking in patriotism.? WesPAC will fight for wise national security strategies to ensure that America, once again, becomes both mighty and just.>>

At the risk of being lynched by both sides.... I believe the candidates are posturing to get the far left activists on their side early. Just as the Repulican candidates are posturing to get the far right wing activists.

Either fringe seem to be a little more easily worked up. They are the ones who get the 'word' out and pound the pavement. Most people dont really pay much attention until the primaries start. Just my two cents worth.

I think you are stating conventional political wisdom here. The only point I would beg to differ is the lack of a VP or President running for relection, (very rare in American politics), so the interest in politics is higher then normal, and should stay that way. There was greater then 'normal' turnout in 2004 due to the Iraq war as well, which is the second very large factor making this election quite important.

The other element that is different from past conventional analysis is that fact that their is no spread of Democrat candidates in terms of political philosophies, (it is pure style over substance). They are all for surrender: every single one of them. Hillary has the greatest wiggle room on that matter and most observers know she never means what she says she just says what she thinks her supporters want to hear her say.
The spread of the philosohpies on the Republican side is far greater, but at this stage they are all pandering to their base, as you state. JR
