I purchased the voyager est system from michigan motorz . My questions are.
1- is the new distributor #1 wire at 12 oclock compared to 6 on the old .
2- I have a delco alternator am only getting 11.7 v is that normal the directions spec 12v
3- I have searched threads and if I read them right and look at the diagrams of wireing the over stroke swithchs are no longer used

This is a 4.3 omc 1986

Thank u for input

Re: Delco voyager est conversion questions

Hi, I installed a Delco setup in my son's 5.7 OMC in April.
I put #1 wire so that the dist. sat the best on the engine so
I could get at the plugs on the dist the easiest. It ended up at about 2 oclock
looking from the front of the motor. You need to take off the alt and
take it to have the output checked, perhaps at Auto Zone.
I think the overstroke switch stays the same, the shift interrupt switch
is the one that gets rewired to be positive power instead of grounding out.
I hope this helps, John

Re: Delco voyager est conversion questions

#1 wire is wherever you want it to be when you time the distributor to the engine. The drive gear has no master tooth or key or anything. so you can just keep lifting the distributor out, turn the shaft a couple teeth and drop it back in until you have the distributor body in the orientation you like with the rotor pointing to #1 on TDC comp stroke of #1 cyl.

I would leave the ESA system as is, and just buy the CDI electronic ignition compatible ESA module for $80 or whatever it is.

Should supply full battery voltage to the Voyager- bypassing any resistance wires that were present with the original ignition (purple with red stripe I think was the resistance wire on OMC) .
