Delaware River (Trenton to Delaware City)

Hello,

I want to take a trip from Trenton to Delaware City in my 19 foot VIP (190hp). Does anybody have a advice on what I'm getting myself into? I have been on the Delaware before (near Philadelphia), but never for that long of a distance.

How long will it take?
Where is a good ramp in Trenton?
How experienced do I need to be?

Any help is appreciated.

Head south. Stay between the buoys.

3 hours?

If you are familiar with tanker wakes and tug wakes, then it's just that every now and then.

That's a haul. Make sure you know in advance where the fuel docks are. I haven't made the run myself, BUT looking at the charts and allowing for not running at WOT.....I think the three hour guess is tremendously optimistic.
I would suggest starting with shorter runs and work up to that distance.
Philster is right about the wakes from tankers and barges though.....give them a WIDE berth.

PS. I started a thread here a couple months ago about starting in the Christina River at Newport and running out to the Delaware for a cruise.
