... he's really a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, but that's a cast iron booger to spell right :D.

I think the correct term in today's geography (and slightly easier to spell) is Czech Republican Wolfdog..;)...but that could possibly be construed as political........ so maybe Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is safer. :D

Actually Flathead, it can be a number of things that trigger early drops, depending on where you are in Montana, we have had drops as early as late September, often times it is due to hot weather and the nutrients that deer are getting in their diet, during the long hot spring and summers, nutrient intake is low and they strength of the horn base deteriorates causing early dropping of the antler. I work very closely with our game dept. on various types of studies. And believe it or not, most of the studies I work on are located right here in the Flathead Valley!

I can certainly agree that poor nutrition can lead to poor antler health, no doubt about that. My comment was more toward the statement the OP made about being told the weather effected the rutting timeline and that was the cause of antler drop. That just does not hold water.

It might not hold water, but it could be quite accurate....:D
...lots of hormonal and cyclical factors in play.

I am not here to argue, That link doesnt mention antlers dropping in early to mid october. Its all good, think what you will about the "hormonal and cyclical factors" of the whitetail breeding season. Maybe this link will help you understand the way I see it.

Not really in Deer country around Florida but I do buy the antlers at the pet supply for
my american staffordshire. It's the only thing that will last him more than 10 minutes...
